Hello, I am Matthew Anchel, a Sing! Collective instructor for Lessonface.
I am a Bass with nearly 10 years of teaching experience. is a professional opera singer based in New York City. My students include opera singers who perform in theaters around the world, actors who perform on Broadway, Off-Broadway and regionally, pop singers, and beginners who are learning to sing for the first time. I also have experience teaching children, both privately and with Campus Kids, a summer camp, where I was musical director and staging director for four years.
In addition to four seasons on the roster of the Metropolitan Opera, I've sung engagements with Los Angeles Opera, Staatsoper Stuttgart, Glyndebourne, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Oper Leipzig, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Knoxville Opera, Opera San Antonio, Caramoor Music Festival, St. Petersburg Opera, Carnegie Hall, and Opera San Jose. I was also a Grand Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions and winner of numerous prizes in other competitions.
I'm a student of renowned voice teacher Patricia McCaffrey, who encouraged me to open his my own teaching studio in 2011. I pass on what my teacher has taught me, while adding my own touch and personal experiences as a young singer. I sing and am a fan of varying genres so I really have an understanding of how to teach different types of singing. Styles I teach: Opera, Musical Theater, Pop, Rock, Belting, Mixing, kids, etc.
