Ezequiel Balseca
About
I am a professional jazz pianist, composer, and music educator. I love teaching jazz and classical music to students of all ages, and I’m passionate about making musical knowledge accessible to everyone.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in piano from Spain and a Master’s degree in jazz from Germany. In 2019, I won first prize at the Steinway Piano Jazz Competition in Stuttgart and third prize at the Baku International Jazz Competition in Azerbaijan. I have been a member of the Baden-Württemberg Jazz Association for the past eight years and have performed regularly across Australia, Europe, Asia, and the Americas over the last few years.
Let me share a secret with you: you can play the piano without pain! Yes, it is possible. I’m happy to work with complete beginners, intermediate students, and professional musicians alike.
Additionally, I’m an official jazz pianist for Norwegian Cruise Line, performing at sea from time to time. I also help musicians prepare for auditions and pursue opportunities like these, while supporting pianists who are already working on board in developing their skills and continuing their professional careers.
Teaching Style
My approach:
- I tailor each lesson according to your goals and pace.
- I aim to make every class enjoyable, efficient and encouraging.
- I go deep into the ideas behind sound and movement.
Each session is divided into two or three parts, for example:
1. Technique & Warm-up.
2. Working on specific songs or pieces.
3. Develop improvisation, composition and music theory skills (harmony, arrangement or music production)
Additionally, as a piano technique researcher currently pursuing a PhD in this area, I can address physical issues you may have relating to your piano technique during lessons. Yes, I can help you to reconnect with your instrument through my lessons. You will learn to avoid piano technique approaches that could cause you physical damage in order to play piano. You will also be able to use this decentralized approach not only when playing classical or jazz music, but in any other genre.
