I am a dedicated guitar and music composition instructor who loves to work with students to figure out their musical goals and help them achieve them. I have taught various students at the beginner and intermediate levels. I have played lead guitar several bands, from indie-folk to alternative rock.

I specialize in a creative approach to guitar and other instruments combining a solid technical foundation with a strong emphasis on improvisation and composition. My goal is to help students develop their own musical voice from day one.

It is my firm belief that the teacher should be an example to those whom he teaches. I strive to live by example in speech, conduct, values, and virtues. My life is committed to serving and helping others. It is my hope that an insatiable love of life and learning is passed down to my students.

Having a musical family, I was exposed to a variety of styles from an early age, beginning on Piano when I was 5. My name is Tristan Norton and I have been a guitarist, bassist, gigging, composing, and teaching musician in Northern California for 13 years. I am a graduate of Berkeley’s prestigious California Jazz Conservatory with a Bachelor’s of Music in Jazz Studies.

I have 20+ years with over 20,000 hours of musical instrument teaching experience and a total of 30 years of guitar playing experience with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from the Chicago Music College of Roosevelt University. I teach acoustic guitar (6 & 12 string), electric guitar, classical guitar, jazz guitar, ukulele, bass (5 string), and tenor banjo (Irish tuning).

He has appeared on stage in 21 countries alongside an impressive list of artists including The Gene Clark No Other Band (with members of Beach House, Fleet Foxes, The Walkmen, and Wye Oak), Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, MATMOS, Lower Dens, Cass McCombs, Scarlett Johansson, Zane Campbell, and many more.

Teaching and playing music is my passion and I want to help you realize your passion for music too! I teach Beginner to Advanced guitar lessons, ages 5+. I have developed a teaching method that builds with strong fundamentals in technique, and music theory, while also emphasizing fun, pulling from a variety of various music sources.
