Give me the music you love. If it exists as a sound, I can work it out and teach it to you — on guitar, bass, drums, piano, ukulele, or almost any other instrument. I’ve been transcribing music by ear for more than 20 years — guitar, bass, drums, piano, vocals and other instruments — and have worked out thousands of pieces.

Hi, I'm David Lapadat, with a BA in music composition, Masters degree in jazz and pop cultures, and PhD in Music, where I researched the songwriting styles and techniques of Jim Morrison, Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen. I specialize in teaching songwriting, music theory, and singing.

A graduate of The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, I’ve been playing guitar for 18 years and teaching for over a decade. Originally from Kyiv, Ukraine, I’ve performed and recorded with many acclaimed musicians both in my hometown and on the NYC jazz scene, including Ari Hoenig, Steve Cardenas, Sam Yahel, John Raymond, and others.

I can teach students theory, harmony, ear training, improvisation, how to play their favorite songs, how to create their own music, and how to read both tablature and sheet music.
