Learn from Great Acoustic Guitar Teachers

From the time I wake up in the morning to the time I go to bed at night, I'm constantly passionate about music. Whether that's music I create on my own or getting the opportunity to help others learn a song they love for the first time, I love all of it!

I have been playing guitar for 15 years, and I have been playing professionally for about half of that time. Fronting bands like Ramshackle and Dan & Drum, I have toured nationally, playing legendary venues like The Troubadour and The Roxy. As Dan & Drum, I have 100k monthly listeners on Spotify, and we’d be on tour RIGHT NOW if it wasn’t for covid :/!

Hello there! My name is George, but you can refer to me as Akori (stage name). With over 35 years of professional experience as a vocalist, guitarist, and performer, I bring both a passion for music and a wealth of knowledge to every lesson. For a decade, I was a member of a successful band named The Glorious Sons, opening three times for the Rolling Stones and earning two Juno Awards along the way.

I started playing music when I was 6, first singing, then drums and finally switched to guitar by age 12. By the age of 19 I was attending the Popular Music Conservatory in Buenos Aires and trained in Jazz and other popular music styles for about 5 years. At the same time I graduated with a Bachelors degree in music production and recording (Centro de Arte y Tecnología).

I welcome all ages and levels of students. I have been professionally teaching guitar at universities and school systems for 12 years. I currently teach guitar at the University of Maine at Augusta, Colby College, and Bates College.

Shortly after graduating from the Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT) at Musicians Institute in 1991, I was able to make a living as a musician, giving guitar lessons during the day, and playing gigs with various bands at night. After a few years of this, I got a little tired of the gigs, but I never got tired of the teaching.

I have 10 years of experience teaching privately and have been taking private music instruction for most of my life. I graduated from Michigan State University in 2015 with a bachelors degree in Jazz Studies.
