Hi, I’m Travis Sykes — a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and music educator with over a decade of real-world experience. I hold a Bachelor of Musical Arts in Songwriting from Berklee College of Music, where I studied under department chairs in Songwriting, Harmony, and Bass Guitar, and attended masterclasses with legends like James Taylor, Paul Simon, and Victor Wooten.

About I’m a British musician with over 20 years of experience performing, writing, and recording music, and more than seven years of experience teaching songwriting, guitar, and bass to students of all ages and abilities. Over the course of my career, I have toured extensively across the UK, Europe, and the United States.

I specialize in authentic Japanese music—from anime and video game soundtracks to traditional styles and modern film scores such as the Studio Ghibli sound. I can also teach you how to create J-pop songs across different eras (80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, and 20s), how to write lyrics in Japanese, and how to deeply understand Japanese modern culture, including anime and manga.

For over 33 years as a musician and 29 years as an educator for all grade levels and teachers alike, I have the experience of learning from my previous students and applying more efficient techniques to current and future ones. Much like my students, I work towards learning the most innovative techniques while foreseeing the trends of the future in music and education.
