Eric Paetkau is a conductor, violist, and educator with more than three decades of experience in the classical music world. From 2015 to 2022 he served as Music Director of the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra, leading the orchestra through a period of artistic growth and innovation.

I hold a Bachelor of Music from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, an Ergänzungsstudium from HMT Leipzig, and a Master of Music from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. As a professional counter-tenor, I bring extensive international stage experience to my teaching, including performances with the Irish Baroque Orchestra and a debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

I have played saxophone and piano since I was a child, so I can relate to most music students—practically all of them! I graduated from the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory in Havana, Cuba, and continued my music studies at Barry University, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in music, and at University of Miami, where I earned a master’s degree in instrumental performance.
