Great Fiber Arts Classes with Expert Teachers Online

During my federal career, I maintained a small business in weaving, dyeing and loom rehabilitation and presented guild programs and workshops in those subjects. Moving to Washington State and retirement offered me the opportunity to teach workshops for larger venues, in addition to local guilds.

Martha Owen is an artisan/shepherd and resident artist at the John C Campbell Folkschool (www.folkschool.org) in Brasstown, NC. She oversees classes in spinning/knitting,crochet/feltmaking /surface design and dyeing. Her adventure in spinning began here in 1978.

Rusty Boyd has been a crocheter since the age of 9. At age 34, he took his first knitting class and was “hooked.” Since that time he has taught himself to knit lace, cables, stranded, mosaic and more. After attending his first Men’s Knitting Retreat, Rusty had his first pattern published by Skacel for their Simplicity Men’s Booklet.

Amy Ross Manko travels the country (and now the world) teaching, researching and writing about her favorite topic - Rare Breed Sheep! You may know her from her feature series in PLY Magazine too – “Sheep on the Edge” or her breed profiles in the U.K’s KnitNow magazine.

Joan Sheridan is a weaver, knitter, spinner, fiber explorer, and owner of Heritage Spinning and Weaving in Lake Orion, Michigan since 2000. She confesses that every room in her house holds fiber tools and projects, and “bored” is absolutely not in her vocabulary. Joan has taught and presented at conferences, festivals, for guilds and shops, and on tour in Norway.

Alyssa Velazquez is an assistant curator at Carnegie Museum of Art. Her work has been featured or is forthcoming in filling Station, S/He Speaks 2: Voices of Women, Trans & Nonbinary Folx, Burnaway, and AutoStraddle. Residences include Storyknife and as a Freshworks Artist at Kelly Strayhorn Theater.

Mary Egbert currently lives in Florida and in 2005 she raised a herd of 25 alpaca back in Utah, where she got her start in the fiber biz. She has many instructional videos on You Tube and an online classes at the Camaj School of Fiber Arts. She wrote 5-star rated book on Amazon titled the Art of Washing Wool, Mohair and Alpaca.

Stacy is an avid knitter and passionate textile artist with 16 years of experience in the fiber arts world. Her journey began with knitting and spinning yarn, quickly evolving into processing raw fleece by hand, exploring natural dyeing techniques, and finally, growing her own dye plants.

Gayle Roehm is a former management consultant who now devotes herself to knitting and other fiber arts. She teaches nationally for knitting events, guilds and yarn shops. Her designs have been featured in Knitter’s, Interweave Knits, A Gathering of Lace, and other publications. She has also sold work at a fiber arts gallery.

Emily learned to knit three times – once when she was a kid, once during college, and again about five years later. The last time, it stuck. She's been designing knitting patterns since 2011 and tries to hit the sweet spot with patterns that are fun and engaging to knit, but also easy to understand.
