Spinning Classes with Expert Teachers

Tasha grew up in a family of makers and tinkerers and has been drawn to textiles of all kinds since she was very small. She is driven by the belief that making things by hand empowers people to live more joyfully and thoughtfully. In her classes, she works to build deep understanding through hands-on experimentation in a warm and inspiring environment.

Esther Rodgers is a full- time fiber artist from Mebane, NC. She is known for her creative art yarns and her unique fiber preparation, while constantly innovating her spinning techniques to create new textures. She is on the cutting edge in terms of yarn design. She loves to design and spin concept yarns from an inspiration and tell stories with her yarns.

Cynthia Dianne Haney, a spindle maker, is passionate about teaching people how to spin. She designs spindles and turns them on the lathe to aid students with high quality performance. Enabling students to make the yarn they want with a spindle. Teaching beginner spinners, of all ages and abilities, since 2011.

I am inspired by words, particularly the sound of the human voice and the person behind it. Language through handwriting and the forming of letters in different cultures – ultimately the universal concept of breath forming a line through writing, painting and speech.

Laurie lives and works at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. As a child she was fascinated by all things fiber, particularly when visiting Colonial Williamsburg. She learned to spin first, on a spinning wheel built by her grandfather. Spinners hang out with weavers and spinning became the entry drug as she developed her fiber habit.

TJ King—a.k.a., the Peahen—is a spinner, writer and teacher with nearly 20 years’ experience in helping others find joy in fiber arts. While her passion is supported spinning, she also weaves, knits, felts and crochets. She’s looking forward to sharing her knowledge at the Cedar Springs Fiber Arts Center in the coming years.

Terri began spinning in 2004 and quickly developed a passion for her hobby. From the beginning, she has demonstrated spinning and other fiber arts in a variety of different settings, (from living history events, schools, farm days, and fairs to local yarn shops, guilds [spinning and quilting], etc.) and is always happy to share her knowledge.

Jillian Moreno, author of Yarnitecture: A Knitter’s Guide to Spinning: Building Exactly the Yarn You Want, can’t stop writing and teaching about spinning and using handspun to knit, weave and stitch. She explores, questions and plays and wants to take as many people as possible along for the ride.She enthusiastically encourages her students and readers to feel confidence and joy…

Daryl Lancaster, a hand-weaver and fiber artist known for her award-winning hand-woven fabric and garments, has been constructing garments for more than half a century. She gives lectures and workshops to guilds, conferences, and craft centers all over the United States.

Judith MacKenzie is the ultimate textile artist and teacher. She has an in-depth understanding of every aspect of spinning, weaving, knitting, and dyeing. Her teaching career spans the globe from such fascinating places as above the Arctic Circle all the way to Turkey. Judith is the author of Teach Yourself Visually: Handspinning and The International Spinner.
