I’ve been playing bass for over 10 years and have performed and toured with a variety of local and national artists, including live shows and TV performances. Hi, I’m Travis Sykes — a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and music educator with over a decade of real-world experience. I hold a Bachelor of Musical Arts in Songwriting from Berklee College of Music, where I studied under department chairs in Songwriting, Harmony, and Bass Guitar, and attended masterclasses with legends like James Taylor, Paul Simon, and Victor Wooten.

I first wanted to play the cello when I was 7 years old, after listening to Saint-Saëns' 'The Swan' being performed at a local concert. Shortly after, I began to have cello lessons, and absolutely loved it! I have been lucky to study with fantastic teachers during my education, most recently with David Cohen (principal cellist of the London Symphony Orchestra).

I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Music with an emphasis in Performance (Electric Bass) from Universidad de las Américas (UDLA) in Quito, Ecuador, in 2022, where I studied under Cayo Iturralde and Mauricio Vega. I currently continue my musical training through classical double bass private lessons with Enrique Sánchez, as well as performance workshops.

I have played classical music since three years old. I have taken over 500 lessons myself. I started on violin but switched to viola in high school. I now have many years experience with both. I have found that many violinists tend to stick to classical or fiddle. I am very different. I have experience with many different types of music.

I am excited to begin teaching online bass students. I have performance experience as a Carnival Cruise Lines musician. Teaching is also something that excites me. I have had students of all ages, and enjoy teaching online or in person. Teaching bass is something I learned while studying music at DePaul University. Please contact me in order to start lessons!
