Blending Color: Heathers & Tweeds

About Blending Color: Heathers & Tweeds

Add a little texture and depth using color theory to create heather and tweed fiber blends. Students will explore complex color blends that provide harmony and how to avoid muddy results in their heathered blends. Flecked texture will be added to the mix for tweed and garneting effects in our second blend of the session.

Supplies, Equipment & Materials Needed for Class

• Fiber: 3½ to 4 oz of a base of wool or alpaca in combed top, fleece, roving (or whatever prep you have)and the following:
- 2 colors that are analogous or semi analogous on the color wheel
- 1 contrasting color to the other two on the color wheel
- ¼ to ½ oz of any combination of silk noils, scrap yarns, soybean staple, tencel neps
These should be anything that will tear apart/fleck within your blend. They can be any color but will be more effective as a POP of color within your blend
• Blending equipment: Hand carders or drum carder
