About Rhythms & Harmonies: Group Piano Exploration

In this class, students will explore foundational piano techniques with an emphasis on rhythm, harmony, and ensemble playing. Students will learn to play and practice simple, yet expressive pieces, develop a deeper understanding of musical intervals, scales, and how they interact within chords.

The capacity for this class is 10 students.

Class Goals

Rhythm Fundamentals:

Understanding time signatures and rhythmic patterns.
Exploring syncopation and polyrhythms.
Practicing rhythm exercises in various styles, including classical, jazz, and pop.

Introduction to Harmony:

Building basic chords (major, minor, diminished, augmented).
Exploring inversions and chord progressions.
Simple harmonic analysis to recognize patterns in music.

Ensemble Play:

Learning to play piano duets and group pieces.
Developing listening skills and coordination with other players.
Introduction to musical cues for group performance.

Improvisation & Creativity:

Encouraging simple improvisation exercises over chord progressions.
Exploring how to bring personal flair into group music-making.

Technique and Expression:

Focusing on hand position, finger strength, and mobility.
Developing expressive playing through dynamics and phrasing."
