About Spinning to Knit (A)

Have you tried knitting with your handspun and are unhappy with the results? In this class we will discuss woolen v. worsted, twist, and ply structures in order to make the right yarn for your knitting project.


Supplies, Equipment & Materials Needed for Class

• A spinning wheel or spindle in good working order
• 1 oz of a short staple fiber (any prep)
• 1 oz of a medium combed fiber
• Cards to label samples, a notebook, a pen
• Students may also find hand-cards, a drum carder or hackle helpful.

Skill Level

Students should be able to spin a single and ply. They should have an open mind that is willing to explore new methods and techniques.

How It Works

Register and enroll above. Enrollment is not complete until payment is made on the next page, by credit card or Paypal via our secure platform. Enrolled students will receive an immediate email confirmation of enrollment, and on the day before the seminar, a reminder with Zoom link to join the class via email. Students will also be able to join the Zoom sessions from their Lessonface dashboard. Students can connect to Zoom using a tablet or computer with reliable internet. To actively participate online students also need a webcam with microphone.

Laura Linneman

    Laura Lineman is obsessed with knitting and spinning. She is a developmental editor for the Ply Spinners Guild and Purl Magazine. Laura is also a regular contributor to PLY Magazine and has taught at retreats across the country. If you ask her what her favorite spin to knit project is she will loudly say, “don’t make me choose, I love them all,” but will quietly whisper, “socks.” She cohosts the Knitgirllls podcast and the Super Summer Knitogether crafting retreat. She currently resides in Mississippi with way too many spinning wheels and a Great Pyrenees named Purl.
