About Spinning for Socks 101
Handspun yarn opens so many possibilities for sock knitters! This class discusses fiber choice, drafting method, wheel mechanics, twist, and basic sock ply structures. Start making the perfect yarn for sock knitting now!
Supplies, Equipment & Materials Needed for Class
• A spinning wheel in good working order, 4 bobbins, a lazy Kate, and niddy noddy
• 1 oz of a superwash wool blend (such as a merino/nylon)
• 1 oz of a down breed blend (Southdown, Dorset, Shopshire, etc)
• Cards to label samples, a notebook, a pen
• Students may also find a twist angle and consistency card helpful.

Pre-class Homework
None
Skill Level
Students should be able to spin worsted method singles consistently on a spinning wheel. They should have plied a yarn.

How It Works

Enrolled students will receive an immediate email confirmation of enrollment, and on the day before the seminar, a reminder with Zoom link to join the class via email. Students will also be able to join the Zoom sessions from their Lessonface dashboard. Students can connect to Zoom using a tablet or computer with reliable internet. To actively participate online students also need a webcam with microphone.
