Art Of Fingerstyle Guitar From The Ground Up

About Art Of Fingerstyle Guitar From The Ground Up

Get in on fingerpicking guitar. With Fingerstyle you can turn your guitar into an orchestra. We will discuss some great patterns that you can use as accompaniment for a song as in Paul Simon, Bob Dylan. I am open to exploring very current players as well.

We can then discuss more advanced concepts such as playing bass and melody at the same time as in Travis Picking. Depending on how time goes, we'll hope to have some time to explore the greats like Merle Travis, Chet Atkins and Tommy Emmanuel, and even some chord melody work like Joe Pass!

This class is limited to 40 students.

Class Goals

  • - Learn some basic accompaniment patterns, and arpeggios using fingers
  • - Get started on learning how to achieve thumb independence so as to play bass and melody at the same time
  • - Start playing some simple thumb independence songs like Freight Train, and My Creole Bell (Mississippi John Hurt)
  • - If we have time, try learning more of great songs like Freight Train, My Creole Bell (Mississippi John Hurt), Blue Bell (Merle Travis) and even into some more advanced stuff!
