Intro to Technical Music Production

In this self-paced beginner music production course, learners build technical confidence by understanding sound, mixing, and core audio tools. This class is designed for beginners and focuses on helping students make clear technical decisions without fear, confusion, or overprocessing.

Throughout the course, learners will explore:

  • how sound behaves and how it is controlled

  • stereo field and panning

  • frequency and why mixes feel muddy, thin, harsh, or clear

  • EQ and compression foundations

  • signal flow and troubleshooting

  • time-based effects like reverb and delay

  • how to create a clean, stable mix

This class is structured into 8 modules and a final capstone project. Each module includes a prerecorded lesson, a watch-and-reflect activity, a checkpoint, and a worksheet to help learners apply what they are learning. The course ends with a capstone project where students create a clean and steady mix using the same listening and decision-making process practiced throughout the class.

This class is taught in a calm, practical, and beginner-friendly way. Learners are not expected to already understand technical terms, signal flow, or mixing tools. The focus is on listening carefully, using tools only when they help, and building confidence through simple, repeatable steps.

Learners will interact with the course through video lessons, guided listening activities, hands-on technical checkpoints, reflection prompts, and independent practice. This is a self-paced class, so learners can move through the material on their own schedule during the access period. Teacher support is available for questions and encouragement along the way.

This course is not specific to one DAW. Learners may use whichever music production software they prefer.

If your learner is also interested in songwriting, beats, or turning ideas into songs, this class pairs well with “Intro to Creative Music Production.” Together, the two courses help students build both creative confidence and technical understanding.
