Saxophone - Learning to Play by Ear
About Saxophone - Learning to Play by Ear
Have you been reading from sheet music since sixth grade band? Is there a song you want to learn but you can’t find the sheet music for it? Join me as we learn to use what you learned in band to play the music you’ve always wanted to play.
Most saxophone players start in elementary or middle school band. Rarely if ever are they taught to play without sheet music. Learning to read music is an important skill when playing with a group, but it doesn’t help a student learn to play on their own. In this course we will use some of the basic information taught in band, such as the major scale, in order to learn a few basic songs by ear. Students who have not participated in band are welcome to join as well.
By the end of the session students will know how to play three different songs using a major scale and have the basic skills necessary to learn other songs by ear. Limited to 20 students.
Skill Level
Beginning to intermediate skill levels. Must have a working saxophone to participate.
