I am a professional tabla player and percussionist with a strong foundation in Indian classical music and global rhythmic traditions. I began studying tabla at the age of six and have completed a Master of Music in Tabla, later expanding my musical language at Berklee College of Music.

I am kumar udho from odisha,the land of jagannath.I have done tabla visharad from allahabad sangit samiti. i have learned tabla from Sri Umesh Kar,who is a direct disciple of Gyan prakash ghoshji. Have performed in many classical and commercial concerts.Have accompanied renowned classical and commercial national artists.Music is life.

I have been playing the tabla for 46 years, and have taken my music and instruction all over the world to hundreds of students. Nowadays, I continue to play in national and international concerts and teach my students in Varanasi and Dharamshala in the Himalayas, as well as over the internet.

Born in a Maharashtrian family, I entered the learning tabla at the age of 10. Being a disciple of many Tabla gurus I gained a profound knowledge of Ajrada Gharana. In the beginning, I was not developing an interest in tabla until I started to participate in district competitions. There a spark of success embraced me from which I started to take tabla seriously.

I have studied tabla for 30 years with 3 great maestros, namely Pandit Sudhir Saxena (Ajrara), Ustad Faiyaz Khan (Delhi) and Pandit Yogesh Samsi (Punjab) I have taught tabla and Indian Music Improvisation at the University of Sheffield, UK for the last 15 years at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

I studied classic percussion at the La Plata city Conservatory with the master Ernesto Ringer (Colon theater percussionist). I studied drums with the master Horacio Gianello and Hindu percussion (tabla) with the master Sanjay Badhoriya and Armony with the master Horacio Moscovici.

PROFILE Dhananjay Mishra hails from an illustrious musical family going back seven generations. He started training in Tabla under the guidance of his father, Pandit Ishwar Lal Mishra at the tender age of six. He also trained under Pandit Chhote Lal Mishra.
