About Swatching for Knitting in the Round
Cap, Flat, Cut, Speed.
All of these are types of gauge swatches...for stranded colorwork knitted in the round. All are
designed to get around the dreaded "purl stitch". Join us as we will look at each swatch type
and discuss how they can help you get better gauge for your knitting in the round…especially
for colorwork knitting.
What will students learn:
Why you need to swatch differently for knitting in the round than for knitting flat
Materials, Equipment, and Supplies the Student Must Bring to Class
2 colors...one light, one dark. Worsted or DK weight yarn... solid or tonal colors, no novelty.
Approx 40 yrds of each.
1-24" circular needles in appropriate size for yarn selected.

Varian Brandon
Varian Brandon started knitting at age eight. A trip to the islands of Great Britain rekindled a love of color and created an interest in the traditions of Fair Isle design and construction. She is currently designing stranded colorwork patterns for several yarn companies, as well as her own website.
