"2019-2025Ā Lessonface Clarinet Teacher of the Year" My lessons are more than just the clarinet- they are about personal growth, building confidence, connection, and fun. I have been teaching clarinet forĀ 22 years and have taught hundreds of students!Ā

šŸŽµI am a classically trained clarinetist and got my college degrees in clarinet performance. Growing up in NYC I attended an arts high school, was part of several youth ensembles, and attended pre-college musicĀ prep programs. The power that music has to enrich our lives led me to being a teacher with a multitude of youth music programs that focus on using music as an instrument forĀ social change.

šŸŽ¶My years of study and teaching have allowed me to streamline and distill learning how to play the clarinet into a simple and highly effective approach.Ā I specialize in helping beginner clarinetists play with confidence from the very start of their journey.Ā Building confidence right away allows for faster progress and enjoyment! I love working with complete beginners who are looking to make incredible strides, such as starting from scratch and learning all they need to in a short period of time to join a school ensemble! We focus on building a really strong playing foundation.

šŸŽ¶Are you an intermediate or advanced player? I'll help you succeed as well! My students consistentlyĀ receiveĀ top placement in Solo & Ensemble and All State auditionsĀ andĀ haveĀ been accepted to various music programsĀ includingĀ the All American D-Day Band 2023,Ā Juilliard Music Advancement Program, LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts and Milwaukee High School of the Arts.Ā I’ve been commended many times by various organizations for my high student retention rate!Ā

šŸŽµLessons

I ask that students commit to weekly lessons when signing up. This allows for consistency and progress to shine through.

Beginners: Weekly 30 minute lessons

Intermediate/Advanced/Preparing for Audition:Ā Weekly 45Ā minute/1 hour lessons or two 30 minute lessons. More time allows for the larger amounts of music and deeper concepts being studied to be addressed with comfort.

Please send me a message if you would like to schedule a 45 minute or 60 minute lesson, or have any questions. I look forward to working with you!

šŸŽµA little about me

I'm a NYC native clarinetist/musicianĀ and passionateĀ educator with over 25Ā years performing experience and 22 yearsĀ teaching experience (ages 6-76).Ā I'm passionate aboutĀ teaching and learning, and believeĀ in the power of music to enrich our lives.Ā I've been a teaching artist with many El Sistema inspired music programs that use music as a vehicle for social change, most recently as a teaching artist with the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival.Ā One of myĀ greatest joys in teachingĀ is being able to be a part of a student's personalĀ growth.

As a professionalĀ orchestral and chamber music player I haveĀ performed with many ensembles including the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.Ā Beethoven, Brahms and Mahler have my heart and I will neverĀ turn down rocking out to a Shostakovich symphony.Ā I enjoy playingĀ different musical genres and have performed withĀ Ā gypsy jazz and banda groups (Banda Nueva York).Ā Music has brought so many wonderful experiences and I’ve performedĀ in many top concert halls including New York’s Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, Stage 48Ā and halls abroad in Scotland, England,Ā Spain, and China. My playing can be heard on Spotify, Naxos, YouTube, and several award-winning films. IĀ received myĀ bachelors degree from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins UniversityĀ and myĀ masters at the Peck School of the Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I had the pleasure of studying clarinet with some really wonderful teachers includingĀ Todd Levy, Edward Palanker,Ā David Sapadin and Larry Guy. Music festivals I'veĀ attended include Kinhaven Music School and Eastern Music Festival.Ā Outside of all things music I love spending time with our animal friends, going on walks, gardening, and baking. There’s nothing like homemade bread and cookies!

Teaching Style

My goal in our lessons is to make learning how to play the clarinet enjoyable and as simple as possible.

My approach to lessons is very personal. I likeĀ to get to know youĀ so that I can better understand what will work best for you. Lessons are tailored to each and every student.

One of the most rewarding experiences for me as a teacher is to witness how music allows students to blossom in their willingness to takeĀ on challenges, which builds theirĀ self confidence.
