Sing and Strum: Traditional Folk Song with Accompaniment
Sing and Strum: Traditional Folk Song with Accompaniment with Susan Pepper
Singing while accompanying yourself on your favorite instrument can be fulfilling like nothing else--this class is designed to inspire you in this practice! "Sing and strum" will help you strengthen and gain confidence in your own singing voice, expand your folk song repertoire and also introduce you to traditional artists from Southern Appalachia and beyond. Explore compelling Appalachian and other traditional folk songs that sound good with guitar (or the instrument of your choice). We will learn a few traditional songs at each weekly meeting and focus on singing technique. You will learn the chords to accompany each song; instruction will be on the guitar, but you are welcome to bring your instrument of choice if you know the basic chords in standard folk keys (C, D, G, A).
The capacity for this class is 12 students. This class is presented in collaboration with the John C. Campbell Folk School. There will be an optional Orientation and Closing Ceremony hosted from the Folk School campus that students can attend online.
