Design for Weave with Sound and Rhythm

About Design for Weave with Sound and Rhythm

The sounds of our environment can be fascinating, evocative, personally meaningful, or downright annoying… They offer a rich source of inspiration, but how exactly do we take that inspiration to the loom?

In this session Cally will introduce the principles of sound-inspired design, sharing her experience of collaborating with weavers, dyers and other textile artists through the Aural Textiles project and beyond. We will reflect on the sounds we hear in our local soundscape – from the uplifting to the mundane – and explore ways in which we can respond to them creatively. We’ll look at different ways of visualising sounds and consider how to interpret them in colour and weave structure.
This class is appropriate for weavers of all levels and interests, and with any number of shafts.
