Mending across the Globe: Boro, Swiss, and Scotch Darning
Mending across the Globe: Boro, Swiss, and Scotch Darning with Riley Kleve
Get clothes out of your mending pile and back into rotation with this new class! Dive into three techniques from around the world week-by-week, with expert help from instructor and fierce mending advocate Riley Kleve.
Starting with Japanese Boro, you’ll learn how to patch holes large and small in woven fabric without creating puckers or distortions in your garment. Switching gears, we’ll move on to Swiss Darning, a technique for reinforcing and repairing knit garments with just a needle and thread. Hopping over to Scotland, learn Scotch darning to repair holes in tricky-to-mend items like the worn-out soles of socks and small holes in your favorite t-shirts. Work on mending samples to practice each new technique or dive right in by mending worn-out items you bring from home. Whether this is your first mending class or you’re a mending pro looking to add new techniques to your repertoire, this class is for you!
This small group class is presented in collaboration with John C. Campbell Folk School and Lessonface.
