Pyrography 101
Pyrography 101 with Janice Levi
Learn to enhance wood with pyrography! Students will not only burn on wood, but also use pyrography on leather, gourds, and dry magnolia leaves. One of the joys of this class is that it can be accomplished from your most comfortable chair! No previous skills required.
This small group class is presented in collaboration with John C. Campbell Folk School and Lessonface. Participants should enroll at least two weeks before start to ensure materials kits arrive in time. If registering after this point, your kit may arrive after the first session. Students are invited to attend an optional Orientation and Closing Ceremony to connect with various online Folk School classes.

Class Materials
Your class registration fee includes a materials kit with a value of $20 shipped to your door. Residents outside the USA will pay the difference in shipping.
The kit includes:
wood blanks, leather blank, gourd, magnolia leaves, patterns, graphite paper
Students will also want to provide:
Students will need an adjustable temperature woodburner. The soldering iron type of burners will not work for this class. The tips we will use are a writing tip (medium sized ball tip), a skew, and a shader (square or round nose and/or spoon). The instructor will send a box of materials to each student, but each student will have to provide their own woodburner and tips.

Janice Levi
As a child, I was blessed with parents and brothers who constantly challenged me to try new things, to experiment, to explore, to analyze, to create. As an adult, I became a teacher and have taught journalism, photography, and drama. I then became a counselor, working with at risk and discipline problem students in alternative school settings.
