Mending Matters: The Logic and Skills of Fixing
Mending Matters: The Logic and Skills of Fixing with Jay Reddish
Learn basic embroidery and repair techniques while creating a fabric mending book sampler, a keepsake that students can reference for future fixes. Using thread, fabric, and a little patience, we’ll practice useful stitches and talk about the life cycle of our clothes: why they wear out, how to fix them, and when it’s worth it to try. Participants will gain the skills to repair most common rips, holes, and stains—and the confidence to decide when and how to mend.
This small group class is presented in collaboration with John C. Campbell Folk School and Lessonface. Participants should enroll at least two weeks before start to ensure materials kits arrive in time. If registering after this point, your kit may arrive after the first session. Students are invited to attend an optional Orientation and Closing Ceremony to connect with various online Folk School classes.

Jay Reddish
I create functional sculpture and jewelry from recycled and upcycled materials, drawing from medieval design, fantasy, and the forms of standing stones. My work bridges the natural and material worlds, exploring transformation, sustainability, and storytelling. By reclaiming discarded materials, I challenge ideas of disposability and preciousness.
