Outwriting the Inner Critic: Quiet the Critic and Write from the Mentor

Outwriting the Inner Critic: Quiet the Critic and Write from the Mentor with Laura Berlage

Writing is an incredible journey of bringing our hearts to the page. But so often, our heads grow noisy and cutting, intrusive thoughts hold us back—that’s stupid, you’re not good enough, no one is going to like that! Who do you think you are anyway?
The truth is, everyone has these harsh thoughts, but those thoughts are NOT YOU. There are real, actionable ways you can quiet the inner critic and cultivate your inner mentor in its place.

In this three-week course co-taught by Susan Brearley and Laura Berlage, hosted by Garden of Neuro Institute, unpack what the inner critic is, where it comes from, and how to unhitch yourself from its clutches, as well as how to shift your mind-speak into the positive by cultivating an inner mentor to inspire and guide your writing journey. This is an invitation to embrace a paradigm shift that can transform your relationship with yourself, your writing, and your creative journey.

All experience levels and writing styles or forms of creative expression are welcome. Bring your questions and an open mind to hold the space that you too can outwrite the inner critic.

This small group class is presented in collaboration with John C. Campbell Folk School and Lessonface. Students are invited to attend an optional Orientation and Closing Ceremony to connect with various online Folk School classes.
