THE HARDEST Eb CLARINET EXCERPT!
You won't find this one on many audition lists, but that doesn't make it easy!
It's a big call, this is the hardest excerpt, but I have my reasons:
- usually, when you play Eb excerpts, your normie friends can't tell if you've made a mistake or not! Not so with this tune!
- the downbeats are often on very unresponsive Eb clarinet notes, so phrasing is not easy
- the high slides are tricky - staccato is nerve-wracking up that high too
- tuning is unforgiving with such a simple diatonic melody! People can hear your flatties and sharpies!
