Lessonface Fees and Formats

From the over half-a-million lessons Lessonface has hosted over the past ten years between over 30,000 students and 2,000 teachers, we observe that students enjoy learning in a mix of formats: private lessons, group classes, performances, self-paced courses, and handouts. We are building our ecosystem to support individual learning paths in a way that aims to be respectful and productive for all members of the community, as befits our mission.

Fees by Format and Source of Student

Lessonface's fee is a small portion of students' tuition, to cover marketing costs, our operations, and payment processing fees. All students who register for Lessonface following a teacher's link or invitation are marked in our platform as their referrals. The teacher's share of tuition is even higher for their referrals, as shown in this table.

These fees include payment processing fees for student payments. There is no transfer fee for instructors with US bank accounts who utilize Stripe's direct deposit option. Paypal fees are described on the payment page, and are $.25 per payment for US-based teachers, and vary for teachers based outside of the US.

Please note that the programming of our partners like Loog Guitars, the MET Orchestra, John C Campbell Folk School, and others may be subject to different arrangements which are discussed and agreed upon with participating teachers separately.

Payment Timing

Private Lesson and Group Class payouts are issued weekly on Fridays for activity completed by midnight on Thursday.

The new formats of Self-Paced Courses and Downloadables payouts will be calculated and issued within 15 days of the end of each month for successful activities that occurred in the month.
