What's Needed for Online Lessons?

 

At Lessonface, we’ve seen that online lessons only require three things:  (1) a computer or tablet, (2) a webcam, and (3) a good internet connection. However, if you’re looking to to upgrade or curious about what others are using, we’re happy to share our recommendations for equipment tested and used by those on Lessonface.

Depending on your enthusiasm for tech or the subject you're teaching, you may find you want to step up your game.

While we’ve been connecting teachers and students together for online lessons since 2012, dedicated gear recommendations is a new area of our site. Please reach out [email protected] if you have recommendations or ideas to add.

Audio Recommendations

Understanding Zoom’s audio settings goes a long way to getting the best sound out of any microphone, whether built-in, an external USB microphone, or an XLR microphone running through an audio interface. Zoom even has a new Live Performance Audio mode that can be used for some applications.

Video Recommendations

 

Regardless of whether you are using a built-in camera on your computer or tablet, or using an external USB webcam, the proper placement and sufficient light (hint: it’s usually more than you think) will make any camera look better.

Current teachers on Lessonface are known to use a variety of webcams including the Hue HD Document Camera (favored for its flexible gooseneck), the OIEXI 4k Video Camera, and the Logitech Brio.
