About Punch Card Patterning on the Knitting Machine
Most knitting machines are not a 1 trick pony - they can produce a multitude of fabrics beyond stockinette stitch/ plain jersey. Any machine that includes a punch card needle selector can generally produce from a punch card: stranded/fair isle pattern, a tuck/fisherman’s rib/single color brioche pattern, lace knitting and many more. You will receive a punch card to keep in which we will discuss and practice 2: stranded and tuck.

The materials fee includes 2 skeins of yarn wound onto a cone, both will be yours to keep along with the cones. You will also receive a 24 stitch punch card.

What skills or knowledge do students need to take this workshop?
This class is for advanced beginners on up. You should know how to do some basic knitting on the machine and feel comfortable with hand tools. Your machine will need to have a 24 stitch punch card needle selector. I will be showing the techniques, knitting and moving on to the next technique. It will be a consistent pace.

Crystal Lawrence has been knitting since her Grannie taught her when she was 11. She has always been fascinated by the next challenge around the corner and when her friend and owner of a LYS offered to sell her a knitting machine 12 years ago she was hooked. Almost everything she has learned for MK has come from experimentation, hand knitting know-how, and vintage books.
