Conquering the College Essay

The course is designed to accomplish understanding what colleges are looking for in terms of essay applications, what we hope to convey through our writing, brainstorming ideas, structuring the essay, receiving live feedback and support with revisions. It will be collaborative and engaging, providing the tools needed to write a successful college personal statement that sings, and will cover the following areas of structuring the college personal statement:

  • Choosing a Topic
  • Building an Essay Outline
  • Developing a Cohesive Argument

ABOUT THE TEACHER JULIE STAVROPOULOS

Julie has worked as a certified high school English educator in NYC for the last four years and has extensive experience in helping students write compelling college admissions essays. Julie earned her Bachelor's degree in English Literature and Rhetoric from Binghamton University and her Master's from Hunter College in Adolescent English Education. She has expertise in preparing students to become college-ready and master the skills necessary to succeed in major assessments. In the past, she was an academic advisor with the City University of New York. She has a deep understanding of the obstacles, knowledge, resources, skills, and plans that are needed to succeed in college.

ENROLLMENT PROCEDURE
Enroll in Writing Your College Admissions Essay by clicking the "Add to Cart" button above and completing the sign-up process. The class is covered by the Lessonface Guarantee.


WHEN
The class will be held over six live sessions on Thursdays from 7-8pm ET starting November 7 and ending December 14.


HOW IT WORKS
Students can connect to the online platform using a tablet or computer with reliable internet. To actively participate online students also need a webcam with a microphone. The live sessions are recorded so that all enrolled students can review the class sessions following the live class. Class recordings will be available for viewing within 48 hours of the live class. This live online class is capped at 25 students.
