Develop your artistry by focusing on your vocal and piano skills. In this workshop series, performer and artist development coach Nikiya Exantus will give you the essential tools with which to build your musicianship.


CLASS OVERVIEW
The course will be broken into two main sections: piano and voice. Choose just one or both of the paths. Add on one-on-one coaching to really jumpstart your learning.

March 2 | Fundamentals: Vocal care and maintenance every vocalist must know

  • Learn vocal exercises and breathing techniques designed to strengthen and protect the vocal chords
  • Get your voice back in shape and healthy again
  • Understand the importance of proper posture and diaphragm use
  • Learn how to properly warm up before singing in order to use your voice to its potential
  • Sing with power and stamina without strain
  • Correct strain/itchiness/hoarseness

March 9 | Expand Your Range: Hit those high notes

  • Gain control over your vocals and pitch
  • Create your own style/sound by taking a song and making it your own
  • Learn how to improvise by using techniques (warm ups/vocal exercises)
  • Learn how to tap into the emotions of a song and your creativity

March 23 | Performance Power: Overcome stage fright and performance anxiety

  • Gain control over your fears and perform with freedom and passion
  • Learn how to prepare your mind and body for performances
  • Use affirmations and visual aids to fight against fear
  • Breath technically to relax the body and mind
  • Practices exercises designed to relax the muscles and diaphragm for singers
  • Gain confidence and reassurance
  • Learn how to connect to your music and your audience and to channel your fear into a great performance

This is an introductory course meant for beginners.
PRIVATE LESSON OPTION

Nikiya specializes in artist development and students who want to progress to a professional level, total package performer (piano, vocals, music theory, songwriting, composing, music business, audition prep, performance). Over 20 years of experience as a pianist, singer, and songwriter and working/performing with artists including Anita Baker, Diana Ross, and Ne-Yo has given Nikiya the tools needed to help you reach your potential. Nikiya grew up listening to everything from classical music to Haitian kompa and a love of music has always been part of her life. Nikiya started learning music early and by the time she was 6 she started with private lessons and classes at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. Nikiya started teaching at age 12 and shared what I was learning with musicians of all ages.

HOW IT WORKS
These are live classes that are taught from Nikiya's home studio. Students attend over the Lessonface high performing video conference platform. Students can connect to the online platform using a tablet or computer with reliable internet. The live sessions are recorded so that all enrolled students and auditors can review the class sessions following the live class. Class recordings will be available for viewing within 48 hours of the live class.
