About Zero to Keys: 8-Week Beginner Piano Essentials

Unlock the joy of playing piano—no prior experience required!

Whether you're starting from scratch or looking for a fun, structured way to build a solid musical foundation this fall, Zero to Keys is designed to make learning piano engaging, approachable, and affordable.

Over 8 weekly interactive group sessions, students will transition from absolute beginners to confidently reading sheet music, playing melodies with two hands, and performing complete songs.

This course is designed to be accesible to anyone at any age. If you've never touched a piano before but always wantef to learn and have teacher help you along the way, this is the class for you. If your child wants to start playing piano but you don't think they will keep it up, this a great place to start.

The capacity for this class is 20 students.

Class Goals

  • 1. Master Keyboard Geography & Posture
Students will comfortably locate all key names (A–G) across the keyboard without reliance on stickers or guides, while maintaining proper hand position and bench posture.

    2. Read Basic Staff Notation & Rhythms
Students will read notes on the Grand Staff (Treble and Bass clef) and accurately count whole, half, and quarter note rhythms.

    3. Play Melodies with Both Hands
Students will coordinate simple two-handed playing, using the left hand for basic chord/bass line accompaniment while the right hand plays the main melody.

    4. Develop Effective Home Practice Habits
Students will learn how to break down new pieces independently at home using 5-to-10-minute daily practice strategies rather than relying on session memorization.

    5. Perform a simple song/piece in front of others
Students will gain performance confidence by preparing and playing one full song from start to finish during the Week 8 group showcase. There is no requirement for students to play in front of each other though, so there is no pressure.

I am a pianist and singer who started learning to play the piano at age 6, and I love teaching all students of all experience levels. Growing up I competed and placed highly in many competitions including playing with the Symphony Orchestra in my home town of Spartanburg, SC after winning it's concerto competition at the age of 17. In college I took piano from Dr.
