About Acting 101: Intro to Script Analysis
Ever get a scene and wonder where to begin? Feel like you’re just reading lines instead of living them? Whether you’re brand new to acting or looking to sharpen your scene work, this class gives you a foundation for turning text into truth.
In this interactive workshop, we’ll start with a simple two-person (A/B) script with no character names, no backstory, and no stage directions. From there, you’ll learn how to mine the script using core analysis tools — Given Circumstances, Objectives, Obstacles, and Tactics — to uncover character dynamics, stakes, and playable action.
By the end of class, you'll be amazed how much clarity and direction you can gain from a "blank" scene — and how much confidence that brings to your acting process.
This class is perfect for actors of all levels, especially those looking to build a stronger connection to the text.
The capacity for this class is 8 students.
Class Materials
Students will want to provide:
• Pen/highlighter or digital annotation tool
• Notebook or document to jot discoveries
Class Goals
- • Learn how to identify Given Circumstances in a scene with minimal information.
• Define playable Objectives, Obstacles, and Tactics for your character.
• Practice deep text work using a short A/B script.
• Strengthen your confidence in cold reads and new scene analysis.
• Connect emotionally and physically to your character’s wants and needs.
• Collaborate with scene partners to explore choices and discoveries.
