Introduction to Dyeing - Ice, Indigo and Reactive
About Introduction to Dyeing - Ice, Indigo and Reactive
Introduction to Dyeing Technique – ice, indigo and reactive
The workshop is a colorful, hands-on introduction to three dyeing techniques: ice dyeing, natural indigo dyeing, and reactive dyeing. In this workshop, we’ll explore how each method works, the pros and cons, and how different fibers respond to various dyes. We’ll also compare natural and commercial dye processes to give you a well-rounded understanding of the craft.
Each participant will receive two sample skeins of wool and a cotton bandana to dye during the workshop, along with detailed instruction sheets to take home. By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with beautifully dyed samples, practical knowledge, and the confidence to continue experimenting with color on your own fiber.
All the needed containers, tools, and supplies are provided with the workshop. Each participant is provided with two sample sized skeins of wool, approximately 20 yards each, for dyeing with ice and reactive dye, and one bandana for the indigo dyeing.
It is recommended to wear clothing that you won’t mind getting some dye splashes one. Latex gloves and face masks are available. Bring your own eye protection is desired.
The capacity for this class is 20 students.

Helen Boyle
My name is Helen Boyle and I live with my husband Ed Asher on a small farm in north Georgia. We have a herd of angora goats that keep us busy and entertained. We got into raising the goats about eight years ago when my daughter was in 4-H. Our goats are three colors, white, grey and beige, and have a hoard of personalities.
