Learn to Improvise
Learn the building blocks of jazz improvisation from student favorite Yonit Spiegelman, Berklee College of Music staff member and alumna. Two series are offered, Jazz 1-2-3, for beginners, and The Secrets of Jazz Improvisations, which beginners who have taken Jazz 1-2-3 may matriculate to, and intermediate players may join directly. Students of all instruments are welcome. Enrollment is limited to ten students, so sign up soon to reserve your seat.
Jazz 1-2-3 | April 16, 23, 30, May 7. 4:00 - 4:45 pm Eastern time | A 4-session crash course on jazz improvisation for the ones who always wanted to improvise but never dared.
We'll have four 45m meetings, each meeting with a different topic:
- April 16: Scales
- April 23: Blues Form
- April 30: The different note functions in the scales
- May 7: 1-2-3 play, the secrets of live jazz improv

We'll have four 45m meetings as well:
- Rhythm elements in the solo
- The head and its meaning to the solo
- II-V, solo phrases

ABOUT YONIT SPIEGELMAN
Bassist, composer, guitarist, vocalist and producer Yonit Spiegelman has international performance experience performing on stages in Israel, Austria, France, Belgium and the US, with Paul Simon and Valerie Simpson and recordings for Spanish multi Latin Grammy winner producer Javier Limon. Graduate of Rimon School for Contemporary Music in Israel and recipient of Israel Musicians' Union Scholarship for Jazz Performance, Spiegelman received scholarship for musical excellence from Berklee College of Music and the Brian Oliver memorial scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music. After graduating Summa Cum Laude and receiving bachelors degree in arts from Berklee, Spiegelman was hired as an instructor for Berklee's acclaimed youth program "Day Sessions", teaching the next generation of outstanding performers ages 9-15.

Students may sign up for either of the workshop sessions, or for both, and may also add on private lessons with Ms. Spiegelman. This workshop is limited to ten total students, so sign up soon to reserve your space. Early enrollment lasts until April 9th, 2016, at which point the per workshop fees will increase by $10 apiece.

The Secrets of Jazz Improvisation sessions are Saturdays, 4-4:45 pm ET, May 14, May 21, June 4 and June 11.
The live sessions are also recorded for later review by enrolled students.

HOW IT WORKS
These are live classes that are taught from Ms. Spiegelman's studio in Brooklyn. Students attend over the Lessonface high performing video conference platform. Students can connect to the online platform using a tablet or computer with reliable internet. The live sessions are recorded so that all enrolled students and auditors can review the class sessions following the live class. Class recordings will be available for viewing within 48 hours of the live class.
