Warm Ups for the Young Singer

Children as young as three years old can begin to start singing in a healthy way. The key to healthy singing starts with warming up the voice. By practicing healthy vocal technique right from the very beginning, your child will learn about about proper vocal health.

Take a look at this video that demonstrates some beginning warmups that a young singer can try at home:

  1. Humm or ooh. Starting at Do to Sol Back to Do, (1-5-1) Nice, light tone.
  2. ABC’s, Mommy made me mash my M&M’s. Starting with Do re mi fa sol then back down the scale. Good for clear diction, and gets kids excited!
  3. Bumble Bee. Going by 3rds, singing every other night as a pattern, also fun to add hand movements too.
  4. Lip Buzz. Blowing air through your lips to make a vibrating noise, helps tremendously with breath support.
  5. Siren. Starting at the lowest note in your range, and going to the highest note.
  6. Mah-May-Me-Mo-Moo. Nice, gentle tone to explore the vowels, open mouth, should not be forced at all.

I hope you have enjoyed learning these new Warmups for the Young Singer, and I encourage you to sign your child up for some voice lessons at Lessonface.
