Beyond the Fingering Chart: Understanding the Mechanics of Brass Instruments
About Beyond the Fingering Chart: Understanding the Mechanics of Brass Instruments
This brief seminar with composer and brass player Michael Nunes will cover a variety of topics relating to the mechanics of brass playing. It is suitable for younger players looking to move beyond simply memorizing fingerings, as well as advanced players and band directors trying to bring an extra level of understanding to their craft. The seminar will explore fundamental ideas such as the harmonic series, descending valve order, and slide positions, as well as more advanced topics including additional valves, slides, and triggers used by the French horn, euphonium, bass trombone, and trumpet family and how they may be used to further refine one's playing.
Based on his recently released Lessonface course--"Beyond the Fingering Chart"--Michael will provide live demonstrations himself and additional video demonstrations on various instruments by fellow professional players. Prior experience reading music is required to fully enjoy the session, and students are invited to attend with their instruments and any additional questions they may have.
