Beyond Four Shaft Summer and Winter: Designing for Eight Shaft Summer and Winter
About Beyond Four Shaft Summer and Winter: Designing for Eight Shaft Summer and Winter
Beyond Four Shafts: Next Steps to Understanding and Designing for Eight Shaft Summer and Winter. This class is a game changer for weavers wanting to design their own cloth in Summer and Winter. We’ll dig deep into why summer and winter is both a block weave AND a unit weave, making it the perfect weave structure for creating unique designs with up to six blocks. We’ll discuss profile drafts and block weaves and how these fundamentals are applied to designing unique drafts in eight shaft summer and winter . Students will weave a gamp with their own creations, including a portion of the gamp woven in polychrome.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Four Shaft Summer and Winter Fundamentals (or Equivalent)
I send out PDF booklets prior to class that are packed with text and diagrams for weavers to follow along in class as well as future reference. NOTE: Please DO NOT share or distribute these PDFs outside of the group that is taking the class.
The capacity for this class is 18 students.

Jill Staubitz
I fell in love with weaving about ten years ago, when I retired from my career in graphic design. The two disciplines overlap perfectly through my love for color, pattern, and the design process. I became an artisan at the Hartford Artisans Weaving Center and began teaching as well as weaving my own creations.
