Block Substitution in Fiberworks
About Block Substitution in Fiberworks
Learn a practical method to convert a profile draft into a full thread-by-thread weave draft using Fiberworks. The software includes built-in substitution keys for a wide range of weaving techniques, so you don’t need to know all the conversion rules. You’ll also learn how to input your own substitution keys into the program.
Fiberworks Silver for both Windows and Mac will be demonstrated by Maryse during the class. Examples using 4-shaft, 8-shaft, and more will be included to illustrate how the method applies across different loom configurations.
To better integrate the material, you'll be invited to make your own designs for homework. If you wish, you can even weave samples between classes to integrate the material.
This class is suitable for both beginners and experienced weavers.
A handout will be provided.
The capacity for this class is 20 students.
Class Materials
Students will want to provide:
• Fiberworks Silver or higher for Windows or Mac.
(NOTE: Fiberworks Bronze can also be used, but with limitations i.e. fewer built-in block substitutions are available, and you won’t be able to input your own substitution keys into the program.)
• If you wish to make samples (optional): a 4-shaft loom or more, plus standard weaving materials
