Fiber Fun Without the Fuss: Teaching Dyeing, Spinning & Weaving to Kids

About Fiber Fun Without the Fuss: Teaching Dyeing, Spinning & Weaving to Kids

Bring fiber arts to life in energetic classrooms, scout groups, or any space full of busy hands. This class offers simple, adaptable projects in dyeing, spinning, and weaving—plus practical tips for managing materials and keeping things running smoothly.

We’ll explore yarn dyeing and fiber types, try easy spinning techniques, and learn how to handle 3 yard warps without tangles. Using their own dyed yarns, students create woven color stories while building connections to broader classroom subjects.

Between sessions, you’ll test projects, troubleshoot challenges, and share results—leaving with ideas you can use right away.

Materials are available for $20 (plus shipping) and include cotton boll, wool fiber, polyester fiber, hooked stick, carded fiber for spinning, cardboard looms, 3 yard warp, wool yarn for dyeing. Instructor will share purchase instructions after enrollment.

Material is presented through lectures and demos, then students will be able to do the projects at home or during the class. Results will be discussed in the next class along with new projects for the following week. This class is the result of a fiber artist residency done in multiple classrooms for many years. Hints for doing demonstrations will be included.

The capacity for this class is 25 students.
