Learn to Use Weaving Design Software (Fiberworks)
About Learn to Use Weaving Design Software (Fiberworks)
Are you still doing your weaving drawdowns with a pencil and paper? Then it’s time to upgrade to a computer mouse! Learn to save time and explore endless drafting possibilities using the weaving design software Fiberworks PCW. Just like learning a musical instrument, using software is a skill that is best honed by practicing. However, many weavers find design software intimidating or hard to learn on their own. This class is designed to help you learn this powerful tool by practicing it together. The instructor will explain and demonstrate the tools, starting with the basics of file management and editing tools and building up to the most powerful features like block substitution, network drafting, and sketchpad design. There will be examples for everyone to work on during each class, as well as weekly assignments for further practice at home. Unlock the confidence to take your weaving designing to the next level using your computer, and ditch that pencil forever!
***Please note that the demonstrations will be limited to the PC version of the software!***
There are some significant differences between the Mac and PC versions of the software, and many of these differences will be discussed during class.
This class is limited to 15 students.

Jen has been a fiber addict since the early 2000s. Her background in mathematics heavily influences her love of pattern, and she strives to translate such “heavy” topics into understandable projects for all of her students. While she teaches weaving, spinning, and dyeing, she discovered her true passion of Japanese Temari in 2011, and soon began traveling around the east coast teaching to guilds, conferences and private groups. Jen is an active member and certified teacher (shihan) of the Japanese Temari Association, as well as a member of various weaving and fiber guilds. She has had exhibitions of her original works, and has won awards for her temari in Japanese shows. Jen is always lo...
The MidAtlantic Fiber Association (MAFA) represents and supports a community of fiber arts guilds in the greater Mid-Atlantic region. Although MAFA is best known for its biennial conference - and now for virtual programs - the all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization also provides ongoing financial grants, fellowships and scholarships to promote education, development and public outreach in the fiber arts.
