Do you play Classical and Band Music but want to solo over Spotify Tracks? Is your Saxophone looking neglected in the corner? Looking for an outlet for your Jazz scales that you can then perform at parties and clubs?
Saxophone solos are on all the big dance tracks... it's a rennaisance for the instrument and is being booked more than any other instrument in live music venues and weddings. Dance and house music solos draw on Jazz and Blues scales and the articulation of Funk and Big Band. Many Music exam boards now allow and examine solos but getting started with improvisation can be daunting. Learning to improvise in Dance music is a safe place to start due to the accessible beat and familiar backing rhythms.
This course is especially designed to be accessible for new Saxophonists. You’ll learn how to use the correct scales and place them inthe appropriate part of Dance and Pop tracks from day one using the latest technology and backing tracks. The fundamentals taught in this course will include transposing from concert keys and interpreting the data from DJ software.... for more advanced players and music tech fans.
You’ll end the class with a collection of key transpositions, example dance riffs , your own structured solo and knowledge on how to use the latest backing track technology
This class is limited to 40 students.
Class Goals
- - Learn major and minor pentatonic scales
- - Learn transposition from concert Key to Eb Alto and Bb Tenor Saxophone
- - Apply the transpositions to Dance Tracks and then play the appropriate scale over the track
- - Learn the basics of Funk and Jazz articulations and apply them to solo phrases
- - Develop a range of 2 bar dance saxophone solo phrases to use in your own solos
- - Explore popular Dance, House and RnB tracks that feature solos such as "Jubel" and "Piece of your heart"
- - Enjoy a new style of music with Saxophone enthusiasts all over the world!

Beginner to Advanced. Beginner students will focus on the pentatonic scales.. Advanced students will focus on transposition and complex riffs. This is influenced by The Juilliard Creative Classroom training I completed
