Forum Guidelines - Spring 2021 Update

Welcome to the new, updated forum!   In addition to the fresh new look, you can now upload and record videos directly to a post (max file size 1GB).   Please be sure you understand the general guidelines below.

1. POST APPROVALS

The first comment you make in the forum will need to be approved by Lessonface admin (to avoid spam). Once your initial post has been approved, future posts will appear immediately in the forum.

We usually approve posts by new commenters within 24 hours, but if you’ve been waiting longer, please get in touch at leah@lessonface.com or jess@lessonface.com.

2. CONTENT GUIDELINES

The forum is intended for friendly and informative discussions among Lessonface students, teachers, and staff. Please keep all posts kind, considerate, and appropriate for all ages.  Posts that don’t meet these requirements will be removed.

If you notice a comment that does not meet these guidelines that has escaped our attention, please let us know by emailing leah@lessonface.com or jess@lessonface.com.

3. SHARING VIDEOS & IMAGES

Exciting update! You can now upload your own videos and images to the forum. We’d love for students and teachers alike to share clips of their performances and creations with their classmates and the Lessonface community.

When sharing videos and images, please be sure they meet these requirements:

(1) The video or image meets the general ‘content guidelines’ of the forum as outlined in #2

(2) The video or image is your own property.

(3) If people other than yourself appear in the video or image, they must be at least 18 years old, and you must have their permission to share.

4. INSTRUCTOR TAG

When you see the “instructor” tag below the person’s photo on a forum post, that means the person is a Lessonface featured teacher. You can click on the teacher name’s to go to their profile page here on Lessonface. There you can learn more about their background, check out their teaching approach, see students’ reviews, and book lessons.

5. EXTERNAL LINKS

We welcome students and teachers to share content that will spark meaningful conversations.  Wherever possible, please upload your videos and images to the forum rather than linking to external websites.  Where that’s not possible, you may include links to external sites as long as the intention is to provide useful information.  What’s not okay is linking to external sites for advertising purposes.

Here are examples of the type of posts we encourage versus those we don’t permit:

GREAT:  A teacher uploads or embeds their latest music video (which meets the above guidelines of course), tells an interesting story about the composition or production process, and asks the community for their thoughts and comments.

NOT PERMITTED: A teacher announces their new album release, links to their personal webpage and all previous albums on itunes, and asks the community to please buy their music.

GREAT:  In a discussion about the best microphones for acoustic guitars in zoom lessons, a teacher posts about their favorite mic and what they like about it, and links to the page where they bought it.

NOT PERMITTED: A teacher has business ties to an online music store and, in the same discussion about microphones, posts about all the latest deals and offers on microphones, amps, pedals, and other gear.

GREAT: A teacher of a Lessonface group class creates a post where students ask questions between classes and post videos of their progress.  The teacher includes a link to enroll in the Lessonface group class for any prospective students who stumble across the discussion.

NOT PERMITTED: A teacher posts a link to their personal teaching website where they sell pre-recorded video tutorials and offer private lessons outside of Lessonface.
