Introduction to Film Scoring
About Introduction to Film Scoring
Through this class series, the student will have the opportunity to discover how music theory principles can be adapted and expanded to create exciting pieces. The parameters that we will examine include pitch (melody), harmony, rhythm, and timbre, all of which will be applied to film scoring. We will systematically work through these elements, after which we will put it all together to form new music for a chosen film scene.
Music theory does not have to get stuck in the classroom or have to stop at theory exams - it can be a new world of expression.
Outcome 1: The student will be able to understand the various theoretical parameters that make-up music.
Outcome 2: Being able to expand these parameters.
Outcome 3: The students will discover how they can apply what they have learned to the genre of film music.
Outcome 4: Discovering that music theory can be exciting.
