Playing Broken Chords and Arpeggios

In this 55 minute class we'll cover that learning to play chords can be challenging, but learning to play different chord styles and to sound like a master of chords can be even more difficult. In order to play a chord smoothly across the keyboard, you must improve your playing technique. If we break down chords into pieces, we will get "broken chords", which can help you with playing different inversions of the chords. Accept learning how to play broken chords, you will also learn to play arpeggios. Arpeggios are an amazing musical technique that you are going to use if you would like to sound like a professional who plays the chords on the piano in either ascending or descending order, quickly passing from one side of the keyboard to another. Arpeggios are opposite to block chords, where all notes in a chord are played at the same time (simultaneously).

Learning Objective

In one hour, the students can expect to learn how to simultaneously play inversions of the chords, and by learning this, playing the broken chord technique will be much easier. They will learn how to play basic broken chords (C, G, F chord...) separately, and with both hands, of course. After learning the broken chords, they will learn how to play arpeggios in one octave, two octaves, and all across the keyboard. They will also learn commonly used fingerings for arpeggios and broken chords.
