About Textured Tapestries
Let's explore textures that can add new dimensions and a fresh look to your weaving. This class will be taught as a tapestry class but these textures can be used with any weaving style. In week one we will review the basics of tapestry - warping and prepping a small frame loom, twining, basic two rules of weaving a tapestry, and sumac basics. In week two, students will learn how to create raised textured surfaces to create a basket weave, a twill and French knots. Explorations in color and other materials will also be covered.
The capacity for this class is 50 students.
Class Materials
Students will want to provide:
• Tapestry frame loom - I generally use a basic wooden frame loom to sample on
• Warp yarn (your choice)
• Weft yarn (2 - 4 colored wool yarns contrasting light and dark colors is always good. Plus other yarns like DMC floss, ribbon, cotton or silk yarn, etc and nontraditional materials for experimenting)
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors
• Notebook

David Heustess
David Heustess is an artist and arts educator in Nashville, TN and his work makes use of clay, fiber arts and bead work. After many years of working as a modern dancer/teacher, David began pursuing his interest in pottery and other art mediums. He attended the Appalachian Center for Crafts and in 1995 he earned a BFA degree with studio concentrations in clay and fiber arts.
