Nine Cast Ons Every Knitter Should Know with Margaret Radcliffe
Do you only know one cast on? It’s time to branch out! Learn all the basic cast ons (half hitch, knitted, cable and long tail) and what situations they’re best for. Then advance to decorative variations on them, to add lacy, picot or multicolor edges to your knitting.
Beginner and up—Must know at least one cast on and how to knit and purl.
This small group class is presented in collaboration with John C. Campbell Folk School and Lessonface. Students are invited to attend an optional Orientation and Closing Ceremony to connect with various online Folk School classes.
Class Materials
Students should provide:
Plain, smooth, light-colored, worsted weight wool yarn in two contrasting colors. Needles sized appropriately for the yarn (US#6-8/4-5 mm). A circular needle the same size to be used as a stitch holder. Optional: tags to label your samples.

Margaret Radcliffe
Margaret Radcliffe is the author of the Knitting Answer Book, The Essential Guide to Color Knitting Techniques, Circular Knitting Workshop, and The Knowledgeable Knitter. She has worked professionally as a knitting teacher since 1991 and as a designer since 1997.
