Exploring the Bògòlanfini Tradition Through Natural Dyes and Embellishments
About Exploring the Bògòlanfini Tradition Through Natural Dyes and Embellishments
This workshop is more than a technical experience—it’s a platform to redefine how African Art is valued and understood. Participants will not only learn traditional techniques but also engage in cultural preservation, storytelling, and creativity. Arlette’s dual role as an educator and Pattern maker helps bridge the divide between community-based art and contemporary global fashion
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
• Understand the history, symbolism, and social significance of Bògòlanfini in Malian culture.
• Learn how African motifs express narratives, proverbs, and historical moments.
• Gain hands-on experience with natural dyeing and resist techniques.
• Create personalized textiles using natural dyes, cassava paste, lemon juice, and stitching etc…
• Explore the intersection of heritage and innovation through techniques like image transfer and layered hand embroidery.
