Hidden Pictures: Letting Images Find You

Hidden Pictures: Letting Images Find You with Bradley Wilson

Discover the images hiding inside paint, marks, and chance. In this workshop, we’ll explore pareidolia—the human tendency to find images in unexpected places. Using acrylic paint, watercolor, inks, and drawing media, participants will experiment with techniques such as layering, mark-making, staining, splattering, and intuitive drawing. Through a process of creating abstract marks, identifying emerging imagery, and developing those discoveries into finished artworks, students will learn to collaborate with chance and imagination. All experience levels are welcome; curiosity and openness to experimentation are essential.

This small group class is presented in collaboration with John C. Campbell Folk School and Lessonface. Students are invited to attend an optional Orientation and Closing Ceremony to connect with various online Folk School classes.

ARTIST STATEMENT About fifteen years ago I became interested in the idea of painting as an improvised performance. I had grown dissatisfied with making work that was fully conceived at the beginning, worked out through studies and sketches, and then executed onto canvas. Something important was missing. I began to make paintings with no formulated plan.
